We’ve launched a NEW Faces of SCD Series: “Feelin’ the Love.”  We will celebrate the big and small ways we feel love across the sickle cell community. Powered by SCD warriors, we will share stories touching on self-love, community love, and the power of love.

Meet Jasmine

“Some advice I would give to a LGBTQ+ warrior is to always be yourself, and fight for what you want. Speak up when you feel the need to, and don’t be afraid to take risks! Step out of your comfort zone, and you’ll find your chosen family.

Over the past 4 years, I’ve been trying new medications in order to decrease my pain and improve my quality of life. I have more energy, less pain, and I take WAY less [medication] than before. I’m able to work a full week of work, and have a social life. It has greatly improved my interpersonal relationships, including my relationship with my girlfriend. I’m actually able to go on fun dates and make memories, instead of being sick 24/7.

For me, PRIDE means celebrating exactly who I’m supposed to be. It means being unapologetically me, inside and out. Pride reminds me that I’m meant to be on this planet, and that God didn’t make any mistakes! PRIDE means love to me.”
